Dr. Aguilar Vela has performed spinal surgery in the Matamoros area for more than 23 years. As an accomplished orthopedic surgeon with more than 3,000 spinal surgeries and an international affiliate member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, Dr. Aguilar Vela is a physician who understands the challenges patients face when confronting neck and back pain. He has a special interest in complex problems involving the cervical spine and accepts referrals for post-operative spinal problems. He also treats adult scoliosis and pediatric congenital deformities. Dr. Aguilar Vela is an expert in the use of cervical artificial disc replacements (recently approved in the US) and is one of the few orthopedic specialists in the Rio Grande Area trained in endoscopic spinal surgery which he can perform in an outpatient setting under local anesthesia. He served as Medical Director for Hospital General 1999-2005 and has served as a Clinical Associate Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at the UAT School of Medicine, in Matamoros over the past 12 years.

Dr. Gustavo Perez Aguilar is a skilled and experienced Board Certified orthopedic surgeon that has been in practice over 22 years. He specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of problems of the lumbar and cervical spine. After attending medical school at the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara and completing his orthopedic residency at Centro Medico Nacional in Mexico City he completed fellowship training in spine surgery with Dr. Alejandro Rios Leal, one of the top spine surgeons Latin America. Dr. Perez Aguilar blends modern surgical technique with conservative care, compassion and respect to optimize patient outcome. Although 85% of Dr. Perez Aguilar's patients visit him with spine related problems, in his spare time, Dr. Perez Aguilar has a special interest in treating patients with bone spurs by applying the latest minimally invasive surgical techniques in an ambulatory setting.

Dr. Francisco Hernandez Guevara has enjoyed serving patients in the Matamoros area for over 18 years. His background includes medical school at UANL in Monterrey, orthopedic residency at Hospital de Especialidades T1 IMSS in Merida,Yucatan and additional spine surgery training at Hospital HOMS in Mexico City. Dr. Hernandez Guevara is known for his very straightforward and honest approach in dealing with patients/family and operates only on crystal-clear indications with proven techniques. He has a conservative approach to surgery and maintains an "old school" bedside manner including making some house calls on occasion. Dr. Hernandez Guevara treats complex problems involving previous hip replacements and accepts referrals for post-operative spinal problems. Half of his practice is focused on patients with spinal problems and the remaining fifty percent are patients requiring total hip and knee replacements. Dr. Hernandez Guevara utilizes BIOMED ceramic hip replacement devices and BIOMED metal/high density polyethylene knee replacements. He is one of a handful of orthopedic surgeons in the state trained in the use of Braun Medical's ORTHOPILOT, a state-of-the-art minimally invasive knee replacement navigation system.
